This definitely doesn't fix the problem. Pressing the sound effect
button in windows will turn sound on and off. In ubuntu it has no effect

I just fell victim to this bug: went to Lock screen and got Log off.
With multiple applications open and in the middle of editing a config
file on a server. So the option to prompt would be very very much
appreciated.
