Using skype I can capture the sound from the webcam but I can't get any picture.
If the webcam is connected, kopete freeze when trying to configure it.
vlc doesn't show any picture neither.
There are messages in dmesg :

The problem has been solved for me connecting the webcam to another usb
port

This was not a bug.
The webcam was connected to an additional pwered usb hub.
Once directly connected to the back of my pc, the webcam just work !

Using a philips pcvc740 ( ToUcam Pro ), I get no picture.

This device needs a userland utility to switch to its full native mode.
When switched to native mode, all buttons and axes are useable.
The kernel also needs to be patched as when the wheel is switched to
native mode, it changes its USB product ID.
I wrote a little userland utility (G25manage)
