I never used apport. I used `ubuntu-bug apt` to generate the bug report.
I don't see a core dump anywhere.

Thanks Timothée. That fixed it for me.

Still getting this on 17.04 too. Running XFCE now, but was previously
running Unity. Two monitors, one on VGA, one on DVI, both stay on when
display is locked.

Title:
black screen after Install Ubuntu Server
To manage
Actually, I do have some more info:
My host is still Precise (12.04.1), I upgraded one of my VMs to 12.10.
Now that VM refuses to boot and shows the same symptoms: black screen
with high CPU usage.
All other VMs still work fine.
I'm considering upgrading my host to 12.10 but I'm a little wary.
Text mode installation still outputs to the standard display (not via
Serial), so VNC should display this just fine.

Marc,
I'm on vacation and will get back to you on this bug when I'm back at work
(beginning of September).
KVM is working, I have other VMs working just fine, I'll get the output of
the kvm-ok command when I'm back at my (work) PC.
Cheers,
Colin

Now after clicking power on it comes up with:

Public bug reported:
Trying to install 12.04 server into a KVM VM.
The CD image boots fine to the language selection screen but after I
choose Install Ubuntu Server the screen goes black and stays that way.
This is using VNC to capture the output of a Cirrus virtual video
adapter.
