preproposed is much better as it fixes several anoyances I have been
having.
Window flicker after rotate cube is now gone.
Drag window to cube face now works with two monitors, one landscape one
portrait. It used to be impossible

I'm just confirming that this bug still exists in the following gnome-
panel version:
gnome-panel 1:2.32.1-0ubuntu6.5
The fix described in my original post

still seems to be a valid fix for the problem.
What do we need to do
instead of manually editing the
source code.
Restart the task list applet using;
killall wnck-applet
