I would like to add a screenshot along with my support for Dd that this might 
just be a bug. You see from the screenshot that in order to run the upgrade, I 
have to have Software Updates running. Yet it seems that this is the very 
application that is blocking the system upgrade. Yes, I realize that this is 
running in Kubuntu and is KDE specific. However, Kubuntu is built upon the main 
architecture of Ubuntu in my case (I am running the Black Lab build) and it 
still pops up when I try this. Perhaps you could reexamine this and determine 
if it still qualifies as "not a bug." Since I cannot upload ain image 
attachment, I will have to share the link to this image instead.

Title:
  can't upgrade to latest UBUNTU version "unable to get exclusive lock,"
  but no other updaters are running, not AptGet or aptitude, not another
  copy of Muon Updater, nothing. Please help.
