I get this same behaviour when I mount a samba share and then the samba
shared computer gets turned off. Nautilus becomes completely

I found a K50alsa-utils symlink to /etc/init.d/alsa-utils in /etc/rc0.d/

The only way I was able to boot was effectively changing the init line,
but this was only because my syntax was wrong and the system would only
boot without initrd loading. I've reinstalled and it's resolved, but I
have no idea what was wrong with my grub entries or initrd.

For your information, I'm still able to use rdesktop to remotely gain
access & control the remote PC by using the command : rdesktop
10.15.90.240 which is the IP of the aforementioned PC. So, that means
there's still connection between our PCs, am I right?

It may have been corrupted preferences or something. I changed the
preferences for firefox downloads to something else and saved and then
changed the preferences back again and it started working again.

I've been fine since 2.6.24-15 (I think). It was certainly an update
from the Ubuntu beta 4 disc but may be included now the official release
is out. system/apt-get upgrade should sort things out...

There has been much discussion on v4l-dvb about this issue so I have
alerted them to the potential fix. I really think as a trivial patch
that this could save a lot of people a lot of headaches if it is the
root cause, so it at least warrants a revisit.
