When I tried installing xul-ext-lightning , I got blocked, whether via
the Synaptic Package manager or Software Center or using apt from the
command-line. The essence of the error message was:
xul-ext-lightning: Depends: thunderbird (= 1:38.6.0+build1-0ubuntu1) but
1:60.2.1+build1-0ubuntu0.16.04
Thank you. You raise a good point: It's not a bug. The functionality is
restored by reverting the python sym-link to its previous state,
i.e., pointing at python2 , as per the comments and advice from

I would like to be able to "float" my default to the latest rev

invoke it. Granted, not a terrible inconvenience, but a minor annoyance
nevertheless.

Thank you!
I just changed the sym-link for python in /usr/bin to point to
python2.7 (again) and I restored pyclean to its previous state.
I tried Software Updater ; it still put up the same message.
But then I re-ran apt-get -f install and it proceeded smoothly to a
close.

My experience was very similar to that of the Original Reporter, Carles
Sentis on 2016-08-02.
After upgrading from 14.4 to 16.4.1, I got a very similar error message:

Oh, what the hey, I'm up anyway.
Running from the command line (/usr/bin/python /usr/bin/software-center) gave
something that might be of interest:

Actually, I don't know which log to check. The message says "Check your log
and consider raising a bug report if this problem persists."
Well, it persists and here I am, raising a bug report, but it would help if the
message were more explicit about where to find the relevant log...

Me, too. Second time I tried reviewing something in the software center. Got
this same error first time, too.
Now it's looking like a pattern...
Same symptom: "Unknown error communicating with server."
It's way past my bed-time so I'm not checking the log...

Hi, Jordi.
As I recall, you already wrote me about this. You advised me that the
mistakes I noticed are in an older version and that the new version has
been heavily proof-read; you even gave me a pointer to the complete
source (at which point I got overwhelmed.)
The only question I have rema
Any chance the packaging can be improved to allow straightforward
installation and update?
Could you offer some instructions as to how to go about installing with
the current packaging?
I have to go now. Back after three days or so...

Holey Great Jumping Pastafazoola! That's a LOT of material to
proofread!
I think what I had in mind was more by way of playing and noting what I
find. Although now, with this at hand, I will know just what to point to.
Meanwhile, I'm still at a loss as to how to go about installing the

I just tried Ubuntu Software Center and also Update Manager. U/M shows
no updates pending. U.S.C. lists, for gbrainy, version 2.06-1ubuntu0.1
which is what I have currently installed. Within the game itself, I was
unable to find an option to "Install Update".

Hi, Jordi.
Oh, okay; I'll see about loading an update.
I guess I'll only stumble across examples randomly, but I'll report what
I can.
Is there a convenient way to copy text in the game? The normal
mechanism doesn't seem to work.
If the game won't allow text to be copied, would it be okay if
