Because gnome-mount emits really important messages I think the bug
should be fixed - is there anything I can do to help?

gnome-mount package does not have a german translation

Bugs,
I have the english, german and french languages installed and get the
following gnome-mount.mo files installed:
$ dpkg -L language-pack-gnome-fr-base|grep mount
/usr/share/locale-langpack/fr/LC_MESSAGES/gnome-mount.mo
$ dpkg -L language-pack-gnome-de-base|grep mount
$ dpkg -L
I'm using intrepid, an example would be:
The device is now safe to remove

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gnome-mount
As far as I can, see there is no german translation package for gnome-
mount active. That means that important warnings like do not eject are
possibly not understood by a german user.
Tre translation in launchpad seems to be fairly complete
I have a couple of problems with my Lenovo X60 special keys - which is
an up-to-date intrepid, but was upgraded thru various alphas. I freshly
installed 8.10 on a spare lenovo T61 - all works great there. So I'm
going to reinstall my X60 as soon as possible and will report here then.
--
I120 fixes the mute key, I still have the problem that volume down
stops totems play in addition to lowering the volume. I plan to
reinstall my system - but not today 8-)
I can test the keys on Thinkpad T30, X60s , X61 and T61.

Brightness up not generating ACPI event on Thinkpad T43p, T42,
Sorry for the delay ... can I remove gnome key settings with gconftool
--recursive-delete?
$ xkbcomp -xkb :0

Concentrating on the Mute Key on Thinkpad X60s:
# lsinput

name: Macintosh mouse button emulation
bits ev : EV_SYN EV_KEY EV_REL
/dev/input/event1

product
And here is the output from a verbose g-p-m:
TI:23:07:40 TH:0x86b2640FI:gpm-button.c
FN:gpm_button_filter_x_events,122
- Key 160 mapped to HAL key lock

FN:button_pressed_cb,1020
- Button press event type=lock
TI:23:07:40
The mute key is recognized by gnome-power-manager as key 160, the reason
seems to be a wrong mapping in X - don't know how to change that. Is
xmodmap still the way to go? I'm using an evdev managed keyboard.
$ xev | grep -A2 --line-buffered '^KeyRelease' | sed -n '/keycode /s/^.*keycode
I removed all modprobe workarounds and system boots reliably now (lenovo
thinkpad X60s).

I blacklisted iwl3945 and added a modprobe iwl3945 in /etc/rc.local
I had no freezes since then and this is my dmesg output:
[ 681.433407] Bluetooth: RFCOMM TTY layer initialized
[ 681.433420] Bluetooth: RFCOMM ver 1.10
[ 681.452827] Bridge firewalling registered

My mute key locks the screen, same situation as described by Jane:
