Issue resolved, probable cause was update to libs that application was
using without a restart of the application being forced by the package
management system
Fix required in package update process (apt-get)?

Problem is NOT the number of files, it will come back if a particular file's
thumbnail is imaged.
Corrupt thumbnail file or failure in thumbnail generation suspected.

Another quick fix is to have Gnome Do use the best icon it can find
and not use a full set from any given theme. i.e. Look for the svg
file in the chosen theme, but if it can't find one then look for a svg
icon file from another.
