I have had this issue since upgrade to 12.04. Installed and tried a few kernels: 3.4.0-030400_3.4.0-030400.201205210521Precise Pangolin) - High load 3.1.5-030105_3.1.5-030105.201112091259(Precise Pangolin) - High load 3.0.0-0300_3.0.0-0300.201107220917(Quantal Quetzal) - Seems to work fine.
