Sorry, forgot to add true at the end of the command line: I use
watch -n60 sudo pm-powersave true

Title:
ThinkPads overheat due to slow fans
As a workaround, I use
sudo pm-powersave
which decreases the temperature from more than 100C to about 92C when
running computations on two+two cores (t410 here).

Note also that I run pm-powersave every 60s, otherwise, the pm-powersave
settings are lost and temperatures climb again.

I can confirm that the right video quirk sequence for suspend is
--quirk-dpms-suspend --quirk-radeon-off --quirk-s3-bios --quirk-s3-mode

a quick update: I spoke too soon. What is sure is that the dpms-suspend
one is needed to ensure that the backlight turns off when suspending
(this computer has an ATI Rage Mobility P/M).

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: pm-utils
My thinkpad X21 suspends (display off) and resumes correctly only if the
dpms-suspend quirk is called alone. By default,
/usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/20-video-quirk-pm-ibm.fdi
contains calls to radeon_off, s3_bios and s3_mode.

an old bug, but my X21 (2662) has the same problem with release 10.10.
Adding quirk-dpms-suspend also solves it. I modified 20-video-quirk-pm-
ibm.quirkdb accordingly with success.

I can confirm this bug, with 2.6.24-17, fglrx 8.5.
The difference is that the system seems to hibernate fine, but does not
resume on reboot (it just cold boots)
However, if I go to the virtual console and hibernate from there, it
works.

I confirm this bug (2.6.24-7 on Feisty, I must confess). I had the same
problem. Replacing all the occurences of sda with hda in /etc/fstab
fixed the booting issue, but hibernation did not work any more.
Reverted to 2.6.24-5 which works perfectly.

I confirm this bug on Feisty final. Same story (OK with Edgy, does not
work with Feisty), does not associate with WPA.
