This happened me also. In my case, I had only MP3s in my list of files
to burn (for an Audio CD).

Uninstalling the Broadcom 'wl' driver worked for me (on a Dell Vostro
3500 with BCM4313 PCI wireless adapter). The open-source brcmsmac
driver that gets loaded instead of it doesn't have this problem.
To switch from 'wl' to 'brcmsmac' (on Ubuntu 13.04 anyway), simply:
sudo apt-get remove bcmwl-
I'm seeing much the same behaviour as Jim Hendry. I usually have
Firefox open as well whenever it occurs, but it also happened me once
without Firefox open (though I did have Opera open).

Yes, actually. I hadn't thought to check that before.
The issue goes away when I turn off cross-fading.
