Of course this is not the idea, but just a workaround. NetworkManager should
not be disabled, at most it should not be used at all by switching the Network
Management Backend. (see System Settings -> Advanced -> Hardware -> Network
Management Backend.

Network Manager worked in the beginning after patching and rebooting the
KNetworkManager showed "Network Management disabled". No option to
enable it again was available.
