I had this exact problem today (same message in `dmesg`) which I found
while investigating a hang of anything CUDA-related, appearing out of
nowhere after my setup had been working for a while.

I was able to fix it by adding `acpi=ht` (or `acpi=off`) to my
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in /etc/default/grub, running `sudo update-
grub`, and rebooting.

I've got two nVidia 1080tis in this box, and I'm using the nvidia-396
driver.
