It still seems like you can recreate the unwanted behavior by typing
fast, or by just entering one character also results in that the item
where the mouse is over is highlighted... so for me it is partially
fixed only ...

Great news, I was searching for a workaround since I also find this
behavior not very intuitive. Now I just have to wait for next Beta.
