This is a big problem because it effects GNOME DO!

I just installed Maverick alpha and had this. The error message made
sense to me and I fixed it like this:
mkdir ~/.gnome2/evince
touch ~/.gnome2/evince/last_settings

When specifying a custom PPD in the system-config-printer.py 0.7.75, it
has a regex for *.ppd[.gz] which cannot be turned to *, so PPDs in eg
filename.gz archives cannot be used without decompressing and renaming
manually.
