Yes; on this machine I have upgraded through from Natty
->Oneiric->Precise. Until this last upgrade fan control worked fully as
expected.

this has not improved matters. The error message remains in dmesg, as
previously.

I have just upgraded to Lubuntu 12.04 on my Aspire One D255. After the
upgrade, Acer Fan Control no longer works.
If I use:
david@david-AAO:~$ sudo modprobe acerhdf
I get:
FATAL: Error inserting acerhdf

If you're logged in as root you should be able to delete it. Try
'sudo rm /etc/apt/apt.conf' from any prompt in a console. Make sure
nothing (such as Synaptic or any otehr package amanegr / software
installer) is running first. .
