Removing kio is not an option since that ends up removing the entire KDE
software, including the desktop.

Turns out the only fix until the next LTS comes out or somebody
recompiles the package in the repos is to build from the official Git
repository.

This also happened to me after installing all tke KDE Plasma software.
It’s so annoying that I feel like reinstalling the OS. The only thing I
can do is minimize it. I use Kubuntu 20.10 Groovy

This also happened to me on Linux Mint 20.1 Ulyssa (which is based on
20.04 Focal), and weirdly enough it appears to be fixed in Groovy
(20.10).
