hi have the same problem, it makes Unity completely unusable.
i try to purge and reinstall unity, but the result is the same.
(using 12.10-64bit, core 2 duo 2.53GHz, xorg-edgers ppa, nvidia gt230m.)

I think that the problem is still present in Natty,
BUT installing linux-2.6.39 and packages from xorg-edgers ppa the problem is
solved (I had 1 freeze in almost a week, before it freezes 3-4 times a day).

Removing the appmenu-gtk package solved the problem with nvidia-setting
and other, but not with akregator and I guess other kde apps.
