Probably none of these specifically. It's a timing issue so it depends
on how fast the system is loaded from the drive. For me, faster drive or
installing server software equally hid the bug. Faster drive probably
because nvidia loads faster now and the server software because X was
delayed a
Actually its neither kdm nor nvidia bug. Its an straight out
ubuntu/upstart bug. Upstart starts KDM before the nvidia driver in the
kernel is ready is ready and X fails. Perhaps a proper fix would be an
upstart job that is installed with the binary driver and checks if
nvidia is ready and delays X
I have a generic compal laptop without such physical button. However, I
got this bug. The solution offered in comment #50 fixed it for me. Just
prior to this bug manifesting my laptop went into sleep mode it failed
to wake up from leaving my touchpad in this disabled state and as
described in
Correction, it was the post nr #40 that helped.

[Karmic] X server starts randomly in failsafe when starting from cold boot
This bug has bitten me as well. My kid sister has a EeePC 1000h and she
of course updated without me around and obviously its my fault for
recommending Linux that she cant get to the net now. I bet more than one
person supporting a family members netbook is getting the same treatment
making this a
My update to Lucid is currently stuck behind a full harddrive. I do
hope to solve it in the next few weeks and then I can comment on this

Just to note, that as soon I uninstalled the sever components(postgresql
database sever in my case) I had needed temporarily the issue came back.
More often than not for cold boots fail and from what I see from the
logs KDM writes, X fails without any clear error messages after trying

User switching breaks pulseaudio for me now all the time. If I kill all
pulseaudio sessions and start my own again with pulse-session I get
sound again. For firefox to regain sound i need to kill it too. However,
this is not the intended muting of curently inactive user, or if it is,
its broken.
Its not losing the credentials. I had the same problem and dug through
it. smb component in dolphin is making too many connections and as a
result filling up the server side user session limit that is 10 for XP.
Then it ignores the STATUS_REQUEST_NOT_ACCEPTED on session creation and
gets access

People seem to be marking a lot of unrelated stuff that were filed long
before a broken and quite recent upgrade caused the bug 491483as
duplicates... Not good.
