I changed the "Affects" column at the top of the page, changing it from
"hal" to "xserver-xorg-inputs-synaptics". Maybe this can be helpful to
the developers of such package.

On my Lenovo T60 the Touchpad works great until I login using GDM.
After 2-3 seconds I've pressed "Login" it suddenly stops working and I
must use an external USB mouse.
I'm using Lucid Lynx Beta1.
