I can confirm that this is still a problem for me. After upgrading from
8.10 the cpu was still high and I saw this was caused by vino. After
disabling it from the system preferences menu "remote desktop", the cpu
usage immediately goes down. Stopping the autostart with gconftool-2 as
descibed above

I had the same problem upgrading to 9.04. The system crashed during the
upgrade (twice!), but was far enough with upgrading the system just
started normal. And after a "dpkg --configure -a" in the rescue mode, I
thought all was done. But now alarm-clock started this bug after login.

I just got the exact same problem on Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit trying to burn a data
DVD. It ejected the dvd and was on 100% cpu and the burn status was at 50% (as
seen from window title, as it didn't update the screen anymore).
It's a shame that this is still a bug after 2 years.

MS user and loaded up Ubuntu for kicks. My Mouse seems to freeze due to
what I think is a IRQ conflict(?) Keyboard still works. The most basic

I too am getting this problem. I am using latest Edgy for evolution and
uw-imap with an imap connection mainly. However, I have other
connections, some active, some not, to various other makes of imap
server (including exchange).
I have probably got a 100 or so folders altogether. Every couple of

very irritating when working with larger numbers. And Kcalc is fine but
consumes much memory with all KDE's libraries it is using.

monitor (syncmaster 245b, recommended) 1900x1200.
Previously had 2 Neovo F419 1280 x 1024, which works just fine and as I
expect. Thought I would replace the left hand one w
just the screen that you are on, when you maximise. I think that this
is much better behaviour.

This is now fixed. It appears that an xgl was still running as an
artifact left over from edgy. I don't know how this was started
(grepping the entire file system as root didn't find anything).
The work around seems to be to make sure you load "dri" and have a dri
section in xorg.conf (it has been

I think we can drop this bug as it appears to no longer apply. This bug
existed right before (beta) the release of Ubuntu 8.04, but has been
since fixed. I have uploaded 8.04 several times since the release with
no problems connecting to my router.

But I don't think it has anything specific to do with any of the
programs themselves. As far as I can tell this is a change that has
happened (for me) either with the latest compiz or
start kaffeine and look at some DVB program (or another wmv).
* kaffeine comes up in RGB *and* resets the still playing gxine to RGB!.
* do it the opposite way round and kaffeine starts in RGB, but ends up
changing to CMYK when gxine starts.
