The 1.5.4-1 version in the repository will not compile with the 2.6.24 kernels.
The latest version from
http://www.rastageeks.org/ov51x-jpeg/index.php/Main_Page version 1.5.7 does
work with 2.6.24 kernels

you need to use the forceblock=1 option
type the following in a terminal
sudo rmmod ov51x-jpeg
sudo modprobe ov51x-jpeg forceblock=1
then start skype
to enable it permanently add the line
options ov51x-jpeg forceblock=1
to the file /etc/modprobe.d/options
