Sorry forget that - even though I tried "apt-get remove ..." and re-install it
still didn't work, but it turned out there were stale chromium processes left
around even after the remove.
So "pgrep -f chromium | xargs kill -9" fixed it.

After dist-upgrade nothing at all works - URLs typed in are ignored, no attempt
to load web pages.
Settings does nothing.

Please can someone give an idea of how to get this fixed. Don't think
it's just a NZ mirror problem - I've tried with au instead of nz in the
URLs with the same result.

This has malfunctioned again in NZ. A lot of 502 Proxy error messages from
various repositories, mainly security.ubuntu.com.
Please can we get this fixed, this is causing major disruption.
