No, just FLV (even though I also get very bad quality with RealVideo
files -- I should probably file another bug for this one), I tested with
MPEG-2 and DivX. I had no problem watching MPEG-2 and DivX at maximum
quality. The trouble is with the codec, I think.
** Attachment added: xorg.conf
@Stefan: if you (re-?)read the bug description, you will find out
Windows Media Player manages to get high quality out of the FLV files,
while totem, gxine and mplayer on ubuntu linux play FLV files with bad
quality.

Apparently, ffmpeg does the job of decoding FLVs. ffmpeg is open-source
so problems can be fixed. I will reassign this bug to ffmpeg now.

Public bug reported:
While watching the exact same FLV (FLash Video) file on Ubuntu Linux 7.10 (with
all updates) and on Microsoft Windows 2000, I realized that, unfortunately, the
playback quality was far lower in Ubuntu (pixelization effect), and playback
was jaggy (lots of short and
OK, I've installed the packages you gave me, then I did a dpkg-
reconfigure xserver-xorg, and I restarted the computer. Thing is, when
I switch to 800x600, it works fine, but when I switch to 640x480, the
image gets distorted again, although it isn't moved. In that precise
case, I've made a
Okay, I'll try that out and I'll post the results in the next 72 hours (as I am
very busy right now).
Thank you very much for being there.

after upgrade to gutsy, image distorsioned on screen with resolutions lower

Henry, I assume you're kinda new to linux, so I'll keep this simple. First,
configure your firewall -- that is, you just have to start it the first time,
that'll be ok. After you've done that, open a terminal window, and paste the
following in it (without the quotes): gksudo gedit

not a duplicate of 48289: my image is not just moved a bit to the left,
it is also very distorted on the X-axis. I will soon attach a photo
demonstrating it. But the bug #48289 probably has the same problem, X
not setting correct H/V Modeline parameters. But my laptop screen

It seems to work after update to displayconfig-gtk-0.3, even though i
had to *manually* set the Dell-1024x768 laptop display panel.
Couldn't that be autodetected, at least on this series of laptops? (the
autodetect button gave me the PlugPlay option, which only had

Thanks in advance!

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg
I use a Dell Latitude C610, with a Radeon Mobility M6 LY graphics card.
I've upgraded my Feisty Fawn system to Gutsy Gibbon on 25 September.
Then, I found out that when I change my resolution to 800x600 or
640x480, the image is moved to the
I miscalculated the distance the image is moved to the left: it's not 2 inches
but rather 1/2 an inch.
I should have also mentioned that OpenGL works even with the 'distorted image'
state of my screen.
Here's my xorg.conf.

This is a _security_ bug. The cause : it's a race condition between the
kernel and firestarter.sh .

This whole bug is a race condition. The problem occurs when the computer does
not have the time to setup its network interfaces, and the
/etc/firestarter/firestarter.sh script is run during that period. I've got a
(very) temporary solution (it worked for me) :
