Binary package hint: knetworkmanager
I'm using Kubuntu Intrepid, and when my intel wireless pro 3945
(iwl3945) wifi card is switched off at startup, knetworkmanager doesn't
detect it even if I switch it back on. wlan0 does appear in iwconfig,
however, which is rather strange.

Yup, same here. I tried purging firefox and flashplugin-nonfree, as well as
deleting my mozilla profile.
Here's the contents of /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/:

mplayerplug-in-dvx.xpt mplayerplug-in-wmp
I have exactly the same problem with a "generic" 250 GB USB drive.
