Add user id to audio in /etc/group. This fixes the problem, i.e., there
is audio.

Worked with Ubuntu 9.10 desktop edition.
Error message from aplay -l:
aplay: device_list:223: no soundcards found...
Lots of sound modules seem to be started
lsmod | grep snd
snd_hda_codec_analog
irqpoll definitely needed for Asus 7V Laptop. Without it neither live CD
nor hard disk installation will boot up completely, but rather bring you
to initramfs.
irqpoll was not needed for Gutsy Gibbon and Gutsy Gibbon Beta.
