My user account was created a long time ago. I don't remember how. I've
been using and updating this machine for five years. My user account is
a simple local account; no LDAP or anything like that. I have attached
/etc/gdm3/custom.conf .

After updating to Ubuntu 19.10, I get automatically logged in as a
gnome-initial-setup user. Whatever it is doing then crashes (I get a
crash report). The desktop then hangs.
Work around:
1. In grub go to advanced Ubuntu options. Chose the latest kernel in recovery
mode
