I usually see if the bug is fixed with each kernel upgrade. Today with
kernel 2.6.22-13-generic I got a kernel oops and a hard crash. This was

Probable explaination: bad memory card. The memory was bad ONLY when
warm, and ONLY after movement. This explains why resume was implicated
since the laptop lid closing and opening caused vibration.
Since replacing the memory, no such errors have occurred.

/boot/grub/menu.lst was setting root to the wrong volume, which worked
for awhile because I had a recent installation in that volume.

Running update-grub, I get (hd1,0) in all menu.lst root statements. If
I change this to (hd0,0), each root is changed to (hd0,0), as

I'm also seeing this problem on 7.10, with all recent updates. I'm
using a 32 bit machine, but with a Nvidia geforce 5500 fx. Xorg uses
over 90% in top when scrolling (I don't know if this fact is
significant, but it is usually around 50% for other apps). The scrolling
problem occurs on the 1.5.0

I tried to build the lyx-devel repository, however it did not build.
There was no configuration errors, no real build errors, but make just
says "Nothing to be done for " for each subdirectory. Unless there
is a simple fix, I'll just wait on upstream fixes. I don't have an

II'll have to recant that last comment, the typing speed problem seemed
to go away around the same time when I added that option, but my video
driver (nvidia) reports that it ignores it, and taking it out doesn't
cause the typing speed to slow down again. Something else I did must
have resolved it
I have noticed this bug too, and have noticed that adding the following
option to xorg.conf Device section(s) seems to work around it for the
most part:
Option XaaNoOffscreenPixmaps "true"
Unfortunately this doesn't cure the molasses-slow scrolling, so for me
Lyx is not yet usable in 7.10.

Using a multi-monitor setup, when deskbar-applet is behind another
window it will "follow" it to another screen. To reproduce: open
deskbar-applet so that it shows a search field, open a terminal (for
example), place it so that it overlaps and is in front of deskbar-
applet.
By swapping hardware around, I determined that my network adapter is
strongly associated with the system lockup. The adapter is an Accton
Technology Corp SMC2-1211TX. Swapping this board out for a 3c59x based
card caused the lockups to go away for several days. Swapping it back
in caused a lock
I am apparently mistaken that deskbar-applet doesn't allow arbitrary
keystrokes, however it doesn't won't allow the same keystrokes as

Here is a self-contained and simplified example of the problem. When the
attached sample html uses stylesheet style_slow.css, the scrolling is sluggish,
when it uses style_fast.css, the scrolling is fast. The only difference is
that in the fast case, the following statements are commented out
I should note that XaaNoOffscreenPixmaps helped me only partly. The
"vistered-little-theme" site and some others I've looked at are still
quite slow.
