After a fresh install of 18.04 Bionic, my USB wireless adapter didn't show up. Running 'lsusb' provided the device ID for the adapter as 0bda:a811 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. Cross-referencing that ID with 'Ubuntu 18.04' I eventually fell down the rabbit hole at askubuntu.com and landed here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/970283/ubuntu-17-10 -drivers-not-found-working-properly
This page has instructions on cloning this git repo: git clone https://github.com/gnab/rtl8812au.git After a 'make make install' and a reboot, wireless networks show up and internet connectivity is restored.
