I still have the problem on ubuntu 9.10.

And an ugly workaround:
#cat /etc/crontab | grep stunnel
@reboot root /etc/init.d/stunnel4 restart

stunnel4 should be run from rc?.d after wifi-radar, not before

I gave the same problem on Gutsy.
Gdm ignores whatever I use into xorg.conf and keep a resolution that my screen
does not support.
After logging (blindly), everything is fine for the user that has setup his
resolution manually in the preferences.
xorg.conf attached. Nothing into gdm logs...
Monitor is a ImageQuest Q910
ATI is a Radeon 9500 Pro
Very similar to Dawid hardware...

gsm/startx will ignore xorg.conf resolution settings and run with very low
resolution
