Not sure if it is useful to comment now, but the proposed fix also
worked for me. I patched Friday afternoon, and IntelliJ hasn't crashed
since.

I was encountering this bug when using an Ubuntu 10.10 Live CD (on
multiple machines).
Using the beta version of the System Rescue CD, GParted works.
