Possible workaround for pidgin: Running pidgin with -f option, i.e.
pidgin -f
Pidgin then connects if using USB modem that is not recognized by NM. Works for
me with Pidgin 2.6.2 on Ubuntu 9.10 Keramic Koala.

Hi!
I searched the net and I have by accident came across the advice to run pidgin
with -f option, i.e.
pidgin -f
I am using T-Mobile 4G USB modem which is not detected by the NM and with the
-f option, Pid
I confirm that too. Luckyly, it takes only about 5 seconds to see the
grub2 menu. During this time i see only "loading grub" message and hear
intensive hard-drive-seeking noise.

I also confirm this behavior - message "Loading Grub" appears and then
drive(s) are "cunching" (making noise) for a couple of seconds. After
that delay grub menu finally appears.
I saw this problem as a confirmed bug somewhere - it was supposed to be
caused by grub2 being actualy located at differ
I confirm the bug too. Dual boot Koala & Windows. Two disks, PATA and SATA.
Grub on different partition than /boot.
Hopefully, thys wil be solved soon. Although it is not boot-denying error, few
second disc trashing is very cheap and anoying.
I will not move the grub to another disc just because
