So here's my scenario: Multiple *.avi files are being copied over to an
8GB USB stick.
a) If I select all files from the source, copy, and then paste into the
nautilus view for the USB drive, everything is processed sequentially.

Wow, thanks for that variable setting! I've been silently suffering when
a quick google search resulted in this bug report. I used to just click
on the button with nothing happening (thankfully it did get focus, so I
just got used to hitting the space bar to invoke the button's action)

Seems to have been resolved on all three machines (not sure what, if
anything, fixed it...but all's well that ends well). The icon is there; the
full name is there in the menu;

I have three ubuntu desktop machines all running karmic. The weird thing is
that it seems fine at home (well at least I see some round icon there,
although I don't get my full name displayed right next to the icon). At work
however, the two other machines still have no icon and only display the

I have Adobe Acrobat installed; I'm seeing the same thing when I have a
pdf open in a tab. As soon as I try to close the tab, firefox crashes.
When opened again, I try recovering the tabs, and bam...it crashes

Came in to work this morning and updated my intrepid system, noticed a
new kernel and had to update. When the system came back up, eth0
disappeared. Now I have no network connection at all. :( Did an lspci,
and I have an Intel 82566DM-2 Gigabit Network Connection (rev 02)

There could be countless permutations of what could be a misconfiguration issue
somewhere; requesting additional info:
- What *ubuntu release are you running?
- What output do you get when you issue ifconfig on a terminal?
Could be a miriad of issues (dns, dhcp, etc. etc.). I'm personally
