pnpacpi=off workaround fixed the issue and I have sound again. Looking
at the intel hda module loading error it seems to have memory space
overlap issues as it fails to allocate memory for that specific device.
But it seems you already know the solution.

AD1988B : Sound stopped
I confirm this issue on an Asus p5b Plus. No sound in Hardy. Sound has
been working fine for the past 2 distributions.

I've attached an ogg vorbis video of this behavior. It's quite obvious
that the flag that updates the direction of where the window minimizes
to is updated on demand and not updated correctly in this case. Some
kind of race condition in the minimize code perhaps?
