I now use Kubuntu 8.10, amd64 with KDE 4.2 final. The problem does not
occur on that system. Thanks.

I tried my usb stick today, but that hasn't been recognised neither. So,
the problem I think is between kernel 2.6.24-21-generic (x86_64) and my
noname usb hub.

I updated from version 2.6.24-19 to -21. When I plug in that device, its
LCD reads Connecting ... (assumed from german). The data transfer LED
of my usb hub turns off after a second or so, and neither F-Spot opens
nor the memory card is mounted. Sorry, no idea where to look

When I copy a rendered html string containing the amp;shy; hyphenation
entity, this is transformed always into a dash when exported into a non-
mozilla application. I suppose the hyphenation is ought to be removed
completely from the string
