There is still mo sound out of my box :-(
I have the following (k)ubuntu alsa packages installed:
alsa-base, version 1.0.17
alsa-utils, version 1.0.17
linux-sound-base, version 1.0.17
I added the lines as you described and used /etc/init.d/alsa-utils restart.
This did not change

What sound device is in the FE41E? in a terminal, run:
The bug still exists under Intrepid with the Kernel version
2.6.27-9-generic. The solution described above does not work for me
(Sony Vaio VGN-FE41E). The sound does not work from the beginning. I can
only hear chopped versions of the music.

I waited for the first release canidate now and updated the system. The
installation worked fine as you can see here
root# dpkg --get-selections kdebase-workspace*
kdebase-workspace install
kdebase-workspace-bin install

I am trying to install kde4, however, I run into the following problem.
Which way I ever try, I find unresolved dependencies. Below I also gave a list
of installed relevant packages.

I was trying to install plasma to later on install kde4. I have found no
special hints in the logs.
I had installed kde4base and kde4base-dev before I tried to install plasma I
don't know if this has caused the trouble.
ProblemType:
I had the same error messages. When I removed an old print job which was
a relict of my gutsy pre-installation time I could use apt-get upgrade
again and it finished without any problems. So it seems to be due to old
print jobs.
