Similar situation here:
I did a fresh install of gutsy amd64 on an ASUS M2N-E SLI (nForce 500
chipset), AMD 5200+, ASUS EN8500GT (nvidia).
After booting using the vesa driver (nv won't work for some reason),
used the Restricted Driver Manager to install nvidia-glx-new. It
installed ok and the nvi
I have a similar situation:
Running feisty, setting net.ipv4.conf.default.forwarding=1 in
/etc/sysctl.conf consistently does not enable IP forwarding in
/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward (always zero).
If I add net.ipv4.conf.all.forwarding=1, then it works ok.

I upgraded via aptitude, after trying the update-manager several times,
all of which weren't successful.

It was under a gnome terminal.
Sorry, I cannot provide a trace as I have since had to completely
reinstall feisty, previously I had upgraded from edgy, but it was just
too unstable.
