Yes Ralph, you are correct as I got confirmation from Conniccal today
that it is not a grub problem and that in fact it is the 3.16.0.36
kernel that is not compatible with grub 2 beta~ which they bounced on us
recently.
As I said I just deleted all 3.16 kernels off my system using MC
(Midnight
Right now I am trying to get back to the former GRUB 0.97 but it's very
hard to sort out even though it's still on the hard drive. Any one know
how to switch default Grubs or if it's even a solution to the problem /
or will it work with 14.04.2 as it was working fine with 14.04.1.

I am just as confused to some extent, however I'm of the opinion that
the problem exists because of this new 2.02~Beta Grub which was auto
loaded a few days ago. I was using Trusty Tahr 14.04.1 but after the
recent update it updated my laptop to version 14.04.2 and along with it
came this new Beta
Correction to above info - I now realize that i was using GRUB 2.0 and
not GRUB 0.97 before the Beta 2.02~ was downloadmy mistake!

Running Dell Inspiron with Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS only. After a major 112MB
update yesterday, laptop will not boot up properly. I have to manually
power it down and reboot it to get to use a previous recovery mode. Is
their some way to correct this issue?
