Hi.
I've confirmed that the bug still exists with kernel 3.13.0 (and tagged
as requested) - I will try with a clean install from the daily ISO when
I get a little time to do so, hopefully in the next few days.

So, updating my BIOS, sadly, did not fix the problem. The result was
exactly the same. I suspend the laptop, then resume it. The machine
resumes from suspend in every respect except that it doesn't turn the
backlight on the screen back on.
With the new BIOS, the output of `sudo dmidecode -s bio

I can confirm that I experience exactly the same issue using Juju with
MAAS and nodes all under KVM.

I mean yes the problem did occur in 12.04 (perhaps there is a difference
between my British English and your US English!) and in all releases I
have tested so far.

Yes - in 12.04 LTS.
I don't know about other people but for me, although I am running 12.04
LTS now, I do not need Bluetooth enough to be worth putting effort into

However it would be nice if it could work when I eventually go to 14.04
LTS.
So shall I test on that?

Would it be useful if I ask Novatech if they use the same touchpad in
the different models? Anything else I should ask them?

My laptop is a Novatech N1402 NNB-978 but in the bug mentioned above
other users quoted different Novatech models. Why do you think it might
not be a duplicate bug?

I guess this bug should cross-ref bug 1070958 but I do not know how to
