Bryce, I am currently unable to install the Jaunty Alpha 3, since
partman shows very crude options and crashes if I select the "custom"
option. I do not want to destroy my running system, but wanted to
install the alpha in a separate partition but that does not work because
of this problem.

the problem seems to be as follows: after your corrections the script
finally works. Before, it always yielded an exit code != 0, because of
the syntax errors.
Now, I tracked down the problem by printing more logs. It turns out,
that
hal-system-smbios --st_wlan
always yields "1"
I installed 9.1.0-7jaunty2+medibuntu1 now (from the jaunty medibuntu
repository) and the problem is gone.

I have the same problem with a Dell Vostro 1520, running Jaunty x64. I
have now edited the kernel boot options as mentioned above and am
watching whether the problem can be solved with these settings...
