I confirm, It seems to be a problem with firmware version of the drive.
Looking around the net for a fix I've found windows users with the same
issue.
Asus change the firmware of the drive by RMA.
Unfortunately they don't put the new firmware on their download page...

It works fine except one issue with DVD drive.
First disk inserted works well (can read or browse, and eject)
Second one, doesn't mount and can not
Same bug as housetier on opening to browse a .iso mounted with archive mounter.
I've made daily updates of this morning just before.

about the same boot problem for me on ASUS A50VM.
Sometimes the system boot normally.
Sometimes it beep and display boot text until the log screen, and then start
normally.
Sometimes the beeps don't stop after log screen.
In the worst cases, the system hang up and display black screen (?? num
