I've read #387848 and fixed this bug in this way:
cd /etc/fonts/conf.d/
sudo ln -s ../conf.avail/50-user.conf 39-user.conf
Later you could restore old situation simply deleting file
/etc/fonts/conf.d/39-user.conf

Ok. I think it's a bluetooth problem: I unfreezed the system by stopping
bluetooth services (my laptop doesn't have bluetooth...).
Maybe the acpi event fired by pressing Fn-F5/Fn-F6 involves bluetooth. I'm
search for the script called by these buttons and seeing if there's a bluetooth
invocation
This bug affects me too on a Fujitsu Amilo Pi1505. I managed to unfreeze
the system by restarting bdus daemon.
- I switched to terminal with Ctrl-Alt-F1
- I logged in and executed: sudo /etc/init.d/dbus restart
- Switched back to X server with Alt-F7 and all was ok
This procedure doesn't, luck
I'm sorry, I agree with Emmanuel: I can't understand the closing of this
bug.
Is this bug resolved? If so, why opening the new #195051 bug? Beside
that, what about applying the patch for Gutsy too (maybe would be useful
to anyone who can't swith to the Hardy beta or try Hardy as soon as it's

I don't think is a 3D cube plugin's fault for these reasons:
1. In a fresh installation (start from zero: all disk formatted) of 7.10
(Gusty) the 3D cube isn't enabled by default. I had freezes with just
finished installation on three different pcs: 2 desktops with ATI Radeon
X300 and 1 laptop wit
I tried Piotr's procedure with Alt-Sysrq-R and killing compiz.real but:
1. Alt-Sysrq-r didn't unfreeze the keyboard (on syslog my attempts were
recorded as "SysRq : Keyboard mode set to XLATE
")
2. I ssh-ed to my machine during the freeze and neither Xorg nor compiz weren't

The first one was fresh installed with Ubuntu Gutsy alternate CD and X

The other one was upgraded from Feisty to Gutsy and it doesn't freeze!

Some interesting news: I made a fresh install of Gutsy (on ATI Mobility Radeon
X300 1024x768) with an alternate version disk and this problem didn't appear.
I suffered from this bug on my previous installation with a live/desktop disk...

I had the same problem on a IBM Thinkpad T43 (Model 2668Y3U) with an ATI
Radeon Mobility X300 with a fresh install of Gutsy (desktop version).
I've solved this issue using bluwShark's procedure:
1) Changed the resolution in /etc/usplash.conf to 1024x768
2) sudo update-initramfs -u -k `uname -r`

I have the same problem on a IBM Thinkpad T43 (Model 2668Y3U) with an
ATI Radeon Mobility X300 with a fresh install of Gutsy. I had the same
problem on Feisty.
I thought it was a GPU temperature issue but this not the case: I
reached 67 Celsius during glxgears but I couldn't reproduce the problem.
