Ok. I think it's a bluetooth problem: I unfreezed the system by stopping bluetooth services (my laptop doesn't have bluetooth...). Maybe the acpi event fired by pressing Fn-F5/Fn-F6 involves bluetooth. I'm search for the script called by these buttons and seeing if there's a bluetooth invocation

I have the same problem on a IBM Thinkpad T43 (Model 2668Y3U) with an ATI Radeon Mobility X300 with a fresh install of Gutsy. I had the same problem on Feisty. I thought it was a GPU temperature issue but this not the case: I reached 67 Celsius during glxgears but I couldn't reproduce the problem.
