I did not notice it earlier because I do not often user wireless, and

Dapper used to use too low a resolution and it looked a little ugly.

I tried work around this by not using usplash, but an update overwrote
Grub's menu.lst and turned it on
I have the same problem.
I changed menu.lst to work around bug #64487 by turning off usplash
An upgrade promptly overwrote this and usplash was back.
