Same problem with Edgy and SiS video. The LCD complains of a 86.6Hz vertical refresh (its limit is 75). Dapper used to use too low a resolution and it looked a little ugly. This is much worse. I tried work around this by not using usplash, but an update overwrote Grub's menu.lst and turned it on
