Can somone confirm that the bug is fixed on Dell m1330 with intel
graphics?
I have such a model and I keep seeing double changes in brightness when
I press FN+Up or Down and g-p-m is running. Also using latest intel
drivers did not help. Using the .30 mainline kernel does give one-step

jaunty 64bit up-to-date the problem still occurs.
The behaviour has changed, however: before Jaunty the levels I could
cycle through where always 4. Now it varies, sometimes 4, sometimes 5,
others 6.

Tested Jaunty latest cdlive. The bug is still there.
Given that Dell actually sells the laptops affected by this bug with Ubuntu
preinstalled, it seems incredible to me that after more than a year the bug is
still not fixed.

with intel x3100:
- no differences with the ppa packages. Still

I can confirm the regression on my ubuntu up-to-date 8.10 64bit on a dell xps
m1330.
I can also confimrm the behaviour described by arturj in comment 104. For me as
well raising the critical action threshold to at least 360 seconds was working
as a workaround in ubuntu 8.04.
No bios updates
I can confirm that on my ubuntu 8.10 up-to-date the size of the save as
windows always revert to a too small size. Any size change is forgotten.
It seems to appen with all the gtk applications (epiphany, evolution...)

Two additions to my previous comment:
The original bug involved the nvidia nVidia 8400M GS chip, I am
experiencing the bug on a Dell XPS 1330 with intel x3100 integrated
card.
The blacklisting of the video module, which now is not working anymore
as a temporary fix, was never an optimal solution
The bug seems to be reappeared to me too in Intrepid 64bit up-to-date
with intel x3100.

hi Sebastien, I'm not sure your question was directed to me, but both
clicking on the txt and invoking gedit from cli resulted in the same
issue. The only thing that matters, in my case at least, is the window
border theme.

works. (Also elisa 0.3.1 seems to work with pigment from svn).

First of all, thanks for the hints, nickm.
Loading sony_laptop and modifying /etc/acpi/sonybright.sh do make the
brightness keys work again.
However, sony_laptop is not loaded at boot even though I added it to
/etc/modules. It seems to work only when modprobed manually.
Any idea?

I'm using Gutsy up-to-date (network-manager 0.6.5-0ubuntu9) and I have
the exact same problem.

Binary package hint: rhythmbox
I'm sharing music through DAAP between two machines both running
Rhythmbox 0.11.2.
Neither covers in /cover folder, nor in cover.* format are seen by the
machine accessing the shared music.

Just updated to Gusty tribe 5 with latest updates.
Brigthness Fn keys on my vaio stopped working again (and power manager
cannot get my panel brightness either). Basicallyt, at the moment I
cannot control brightness on gutsy
