I'm not convinced this is 'a kernel bug' as opposed to being openswan
related - we only saw it under heavy VPN traffic, and the problem
immediately resolved itself if the VPN was restarted.
it's not solved, but worked around. we've been running a newer stock
kernel rather than the lucid ones.

a little more digging shows this is definitely a 'new firewire stack'
bug - switching to the old stack fixes the issue.
feel free to change this to a kernel bug..

I was successfully using dv4lstart (provided by dv4l) to present my

I recently upgraded to maverick, and this no longer works. skype gets a

sigh. I didn't bother replying to the previous request for 'testing with

actually libncurses.so.5 is in /lib, not /usr/lib, so you need this:
sudo apt-get install libncurses5
sudo ln -s /lib/libncurses.so.5 /usr/lib/libtinfo.so.5
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libtinfo.so.5 /usr/lib/libtinfo.so

Kristen... I got the same behavior. it seemed to be because I had *two*
kernel versions installed, 2.6.27-7 and 2.6.27-11.
the 2.6.27-11 version had been installed (badly) before I fixed the
mkinitramfs program, so the symbolic link to it from /initrd.img was
broken - this seems to prevent other
output of lspci attached. I've tried the new build of the driver from
the testing page, it not only does NOT fix the flicker, but there are
now also redraw issues when scrolling gnome terminal windows.
needless to say I'm about to try and remove this version...
also, when you say 'We'd like to

hmm. I'm not convinced the 'every 5 seconds' flicker is the same thing.
I saw other bug reports around when I was trying to see if others had my
issue (persistent flickering, almost subliminal with the brightness
turned down a couple of notches), and the 'every 5/7 seconds' thing was
something to
no effect from reconfiguring X.. my hardy config didn't have anything
special in it either, though.
