I downloaded Precise beta2, and was unable to get the sd card to work on
it. I only tried it on a live usb of it though, so I'm not sure if that
would make a difference or not. However, on my Arch install the sd
reader works with the same options sdhci debug_quirks=0x40 added
(kernel

Did you try adding the modprobe conf file? For me in Oneiric the
modprobe -r firewire_ohci isn't needed, just the modprobe
sudo su
echo sdhci debug_quirks=0x40 /etc/modprobe.d/sd_reader.conf
rmmod sdhci_pci sdhci
modprobe sdhci
modprobe sdhci_pci
update-initramfs -u
exit
