AMD seems to think this should work, I'm away from my linux box to check
package dependencies.

After I installed the latest catalyst Driver I cannot successfully
switch back to the free driver ATI catalyst control center still shows
up under application, how do I return the system to it's previous state
?
Currently it insists on booting into low graphics mode.

r3xx Hardware does not
for my radeon 9700 TX the following instructions in a duplicate thread worked:
1. sudo apt-get remove --purge fglrx*
2. sudo apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-video-ati
xserver-xorg-video-radeon
3. sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-ati

Not sure if it is fixed or not, but it works for me.
I downloaded the 1013 daily alternative build cd and installed on Abit AB9 Pro
motherboard using the JM controller without any problems what so ever. Clean
install, no hacking about.
Used a SATA Plextor DVD drive and a 400Gb SATA2 Samsung

1.That is correct. The two devices are connected to the SATA connectors
between the PCIe slots.
2. Nothing besides the DVD drive and the Samsung drive

Currently using the AMD64 release.
I'm happy do to further testing if required.
