The workaround did not work on my Gateway M305CRV with Intel 82852. I
still get GPU lockups and the Xorg crashes that result from it.
Here's my Xorg log for anyone who wants it;

I still have the motherboard that I referred to in this bug report.
Unfortunately, I have retired it a few months after submitting this bug

The latest kernel update (2.6.31-14.46) has fixed this issue.
I believe the cause of the lockup was USB issues on my laptop with prior
Karmic kernels. Not only did it affect suspend, but it also affected
shutdown as well as startup whenever no USB audio adapter, keyboard, or
mouse is connected in
