The only desktop we are getting this error is in Unity. So, the error may be in
KMyMoney's source, but it's only triggered by some behaviour in Unity, and it
doesn't happen in other desktops.
Can we please keep looking into this, and not just close it as invalid?

The KMM stock packages in Jaunty have the plugins disabled, and they are
broken in some other ways.
Our recommendation is to install the packages from a PPA provided by one of our
users.

For what you want to do, you can either create an asset account, which
you include in your pay transaction, and later you transfer money from
that account to your 410k account (which should be an investment
account), or you can create a brokerage subaccoun
In this case, I would setup an asset account, which I would add to the
pay transaction.
Then go to the 401K account, and create a buy transaction from the asset
account.

brokerage account for these cases.
Some controls were added in 0.9.3 to prevent issues in investment
transactions, that's why it won't let you Accept the transaction when
you edit it.

The correct way to change the opening ledger is by right-clicking the

several times per second for Amarok information, even if Amarok is not running.

When you set up a credit card account, entering a positive opening
balance means you owe that much money. A negative balance in that case
would mean the credit card owes you.

Also, you should be careful when opening your 0.8.8 file in version 0.9
of KMyMoney. You can read it in 0.9, but if you save it with 0.9, you
should not open it with 0.8 anymore, because you will lose data.

It is certainly a problem in the KDE setup. Probably, you are missing a KDE
theme. The themes are ones in charge of showing the maximize, minimize, etc.
buttons.
Try installing kcontrol, and run it to check what theme you have installed for
KDE.
